Attachment Therapy

Attachment therapy, which is based on attachment theory, explores how a person’s childhood relationships and experiences can impact how they relate to others and themselves as adults.

Attachment therapy is most often recommended for individuals who have had negative childhood experiences. However, anyone struggling with creating or sustaining meaningful relationships with others or themselves, expressing emotions, or communicating effectively can benefit from this approach.

The attachment therapeutic process is focused on exploring one’s childhood experiences and how that informs one’s present persona.

Therapist and client work to unpack and understand past relationships with primary figures or caregivers, which in turn informs how the client’s present therapeutic challenges may have arisen. From there, therapist and client work to identify areas of growth to help the client foster more supportive relationships with themselves, others, and their world.
